Maharashtra Police seized 10 lakh rupees that was allegedly headed for Rahul Gandhi’s rally at Ramtekevening. According to the police, the cash was found in a car in Sangamner area of Nagpur during a routine patrol. The driver of the car allegedly did not stop at the police bandobast and tried to flee. The car was chased down by the patrolling vehicles and searched.
The driver of the car, who identified himself as Mohammad Aleem, said the money was meant to be paid for labourers erecting the stage and preparing the rally ground at Ramtek for Rahul Gandhi’s rally.
As per the Election Commission guidelines, payment to contractors for campaign rallies has to be done by cheque. With no documentations and prior approval, the seizure of cash would result in filing of an FIR.
It remains to be seen if Rahul Gandhi or the Congress candidates from Nagpur, for whom the rally was organised, are held accountable.
